Many teenagers are oblivious to peer pressure, even though they experience it almost every day. These are some examples of short and long term effects of peer pressure:
SHORT TERM EFFECTS
- Teenagers might seem isolated from their group, and therefore feel sad and misunderstood.
- They might get in the habit of smoking, drugs or alcohol and therefore feel tired, guilty and confused.
- They could get caught by the police, which could lead them into suspension from school.
- Children might rebel against their parents' wishes, as suggested in the article.
- They could do badly at school.
- They could feel moody, and therefore be rude to peers, which would tear good relationships.
LONG TERM EFFECTS
- From doing badly at school or having a record, they could be ignored from UNI and job positions.
- They could ruin their relationships with friends and family, as well as destroy their education.
- They could set a bad example for their children or the young generation after them.
- Their bad behaviour could also rub off onto friends or siblings, which could cause them to have bad behaviour in school or get lower grades, as the article stated.
