What is peer pressure?
Peer pressure is making a peer or person do something that they are not comfortable with doing or are not allowed to do. It is the influence of others. The influence of members in your social circle can make you choose to do things that will regard you as cool or make you fit in.
Peer pressure is most common in adolescents, particularly teenage girls.

Examples of situations where people are influenced:
- Smoking; Lots of young people think that smoking can make them seem 'cooler' in social circumstances, whilst ignoring and not understanding the health risks that come with it.
- Stealing; Adolescents tend to steal or are pressured into stealing to show that they are worthy of being part of a certain friendship circle or again to try and look cool and intimidating.
- Girls between the age of 11-16 are so caught up in trying to fit in with the world around them or with their peers. Girls like to have the newest trends or the latest technology just to make themselves seem popular and fit in with the crowd. People might start changing appearance like buying high heels and having a short skirt all due to fitting in.
